Day 18 (of 30)

Feel good!

Last night at gym went really well until we got on the treadmill, Ty had forgotten his blood pressure pill and so had to stop running but we did 4ks on the bicycle and I beat my 3k time of 29 minutes with 26 minutes which I am really happy about!!
Tonight's plan I'm not sure of, maybe the super circuit.
I have shin splints which sucks, and I need to find something to help with it.
The ladies race on the 25th of August has a first place prize of R10 000, if that isn't motivation I don't know what is...

Day 17 (of 30)

Yesterday, Ty and I went to the gym again and I swam 26 laps of a 250m pool which is only 650m and Ty started with chest exercises at 45kg which is really great because before the op he was only able to do 30kg!! :D

Everyday is a test to see if you can beat whatever you did the day before and in Ty's case build stronger muscles and get to the level he wishes to be at. I'm really proud of him, he's accomplished more than anyone of his age in his circumstances. His motivation helps me when I'm feeling like there's no point.

So today's plan is cardio for the both of us because Ty's elbow joints are taking a bit of strain from the weights last night. The goal: 3k's in less than 24 minutes for Ty and less than 29 minutes for me.
Also we are planning to go to a killer abs class at 05h30 every morning - Monday to Friday, we'll see how that pans out. ;)

Day 12 - 15 (of 30)

So I got a little lazy and forgot to blog for days 12,13 and 14 but we did no exercise and managed to have a little bit of a crappy weekend because I was in a funny mood, I have one thing to report since we've started this 30 day thing, I have absolutely NO sex drive... AT ALL! I hope its part of this thing and it will return once we are all fit and healthy and sexy again.

Yesterday was day 1 of gym and it was awesome! We both started out with 3ks and Ty completed his in 24 minutes and me in 29 minutes. All in all I think it was a great start, today I am going to stay with 3ks but try beat my time of 29 minutes and Ty is going to do weights on his chest and shoulders, he will do cardio twice a week and me 6 times a week with alternate between running training and swimming and the other cardio workouts.

We took a couple measurements for day 1 and will update them once a week, every Sunday.
Ty:
Weight: 88kg's
Body fat: 20.4% (was 23%) - Ideal is 12%
Me:
Weight 81ks's
Body fat: 31% (was 33%) - Ideal is 16% (must confirm that)

Our 5 day goal: Start gym and maintain for 22 days min with one rest day a week.
Our 22 day goal: keep up with this programme until the end.
Our 33 day goal: 5ks in 40 minutes
Our 60+ day goal: See results in our bodies, Lost a good amount of weight, 5ks in 30 minutes or less.

Day 7 (of 30)

Today we did some training, a measly 20 mins, because our muscles are in pain from yesterday and our joints are aching - you'd think we were 45 - we blazed and ate more than humanly possible and then crashed...

Not a very productive day

Day 6 (of 30)

No excuses...

Today a group of friends and Ty and I and my parents went to Acrobranch for my birthday, when we got there we all decided it would be childsplay.

Nevertheless, we all struggled through the first course and all completed it, the second one I gave up halfway because of a wobbly ladder - sigh - but Ty finished both courses and on the tougher levels and also had enough energy for the rest of the evening at Primi Piatti and had a great time.

I want to say we did no training but everyone was stiff for 3 days after so we did do training!!

Day 5 (of 30)

Just doing it

Last night we ended up going to Panarottis with a friend of ours because they have a R50 eat all you can special... the horror I know.
But it wasn't all bad, we went back to Ty's place and showed her some of our training, I think we did about half an hours exercise which is minimal but we still did it! It was actually a success because now she wants to join our training when she gets back from holiday!

Today is my birthday so it will consist of things we shouldn't be eating (we are going out for dinner) and drinking but we still plan on doing our training before we go out, I'm not sure of what it will consist of but I'm hoping that we simply do an hour of non-strenous yoga stretches!
Unfortunately I know Ty won't play that tune and we will end up going to dinner absolutely ravenous.
We planned on going for a jog today down to LC De Villers which is about 4-5k's and we normally do it in about 45 mins, as long as we're warmed up before we go I'm sure we will stick to that.

Tomorrow we will get 2 hours of exercise most probably as we will be climbing trees and swinging on ropes and all sorts (I will make sure I upload some pictures on Sunday or Monday) followed by cake and other 'bad things' we shouldn't be doing, but hey, you only have a birthday once a year, so you're allowed to cheat!

We have 8 days until we start gym and we're both really looking forward to it, not really the pain but the results of a few months hard work will keep us motivated.

Harsh, but true

Cheers for now

Day 4 (of 30)

Procrastination... or is it?The definition: to put off till another day or time
(Taken from Dictionary.com)

Yesterday was not a total fail as we were still active, but we didn't do the exercises we had planned. We simply said, we'll do double tomorrow night. One of the WORST mistakes you can make is to put off exercise, especially if you're just starting like we are. You have to maintain a constant daily routine until you don't think twice about whether you're going to exercise or not. There is but one cure for procrastination, just do it. No one can make you do it if you don't want to but you have to make yourself do it even if you don't want to.

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success before they gave up." - Thomas Edison.

Its tough trying to make time for everything in a day, there really are not enough hours in a day. In 9 days time, when we start gym again, its going to be really tough for Ty to go to gym as he leaves for work at 06h50 and gets back from work at 17h30 or thereabouts, he then has to go home and feed his bunnies and then can he only go to gym unless he goes before work and wakes up at 04h45 and goes to gym at 05h00 till about 06h00, its not a long time to gym but its something. Time is just another reason to defer it. I think another goal we have to add is doing it every day.

So today's plan is the same as yesterdays plus some more exercise, we have a skipping rope so we can use that as well. Also the building is 10 stories high, maybe we should run to the bottom and attempt to go all the way to the 10th floor on the stairs - that would give us a little bit of cardio... Or maybe we'll do that tomorrow.

Day 3 (of 30)

The second day is always the worst...
You're stiff from the first days exercises which shocks your body and it definitely makes you suffer when you start with the next days exercise! Nevertheless, we still managed to complete our exercises - although our effort level was more at 70% than the 95% on Monday night. Our exercises composed of the normal stretches followed by a series of Kung Fu style kicking, which kills your abs but also aids in suppleness.
We then did toning exercises with 2kg weights on the arms followed by another martial art exercise called "Mabu" or horse stance, where you go down just above your haunches and hold it there for as long as you can - we managed 30 seconds and will increase by 10 seconds every time we do it.
The last thing we did was push ups, sit ups and the plank position for 30 seconds which we will also increase in 10 second intervals.
10 more days until we start the gym routine and in that time we have to strengthen our core muscles as well as any other muscle group we can, in preparation for the 5k run. I have a goal of completing 5ks in 30 Min's and Ty has the same goal.

Tonight's plan:
  • Stretches
  • Kicking
  • Punching
  • Weight training
We forgot to do the pictures and measurements so we will get on that as soon as we can.

There's no other day like today, no more procrastinating.

Day 2 (of 30)

Yesterday was a great start, I saw I have to write the supplementary exam for Maths and I got really sad and grumpy. Unfortunately I knew just before I saw Ty, so when he saw me I was grumpy (not the normal grumpy either) and we went to go feed his bunnies and came back to my flat and started our home exercise routine.
It started with some stretching, just the basics, and then we moved to weight training on our arms. I am actually glad I was a bit grumpy because every time I wanted to stop I thought about my supplementary exam I got irritated and carried on and managed to do everything my coach (and my ginger) told me to do.
Ty did very well as well, his shoulder coped well (from the operation) and hopefully the exercise will help the pain go away. He managed to finish all of his exercises as well. We then moved to the shoulder exercises which was torture but we both managed to do it! We finished off with abs and needless to say my abs are sore today!!
We accomplished an hour and 10 minutes of exercise - which we are very proud of - because our initial goal was 30 mins. Tonight we will aim for the same time as last night (01h10) and see how we go.
Tonight's plan of action is:
  1. Push ups
  2. Sit ups
  3. Weight training
In tomorrows blog I shall tell of our successes of tonight and also I will upload some before pictures and measurements to compare with in some few weeks away.

On the 1st of July we will start the gym routine in preparation for our 5k run that we have in Pretoria on the 28th to help aid the safety of the rhino in Africa.
Sometime in August we also have another 5k run with my parents in the Jo burg Zoo (also in aid of the rhinos and we (Ty and I) plan on beating them if not coming first and second!

That's all for now

Day 1 (of 30)

So today is day 1 of 30 and Ty and I have decided to hit the home gym routine.
We plan on doing weights, sit ups, push ups and use the skipping rope for 30 mins atleast!
Today I have a headache and weigh 84kg, I want to be fitter, healthier and more confident and I want to look good and not be shy anymore!!
Ty weighs +- 88kg and his goal is to look good, get back that "healthy feeling" that he lost and to build and strengthen his muscels which has big benefits to his body in particular.
Tomorrow I will write again tellingof how well we did tonight!
